LockIn Privacy Policy

In short: LockIn does not collect, store on any server, sell, or share your personal data. Your settings stay on your own device, and the extension makes no network requests of its own.
About LockIn
LockIn is a Chrome extension that lets you hide parts of Instagram (such as the feed, Reels, Explore, Stories and suggestions), keep your direct messages, and optionally lock your choices for a set period of time.
What information LockIn collects
None. LockIn does not collect or transmit any personal information, including your name, email address, IP address, device information, location, browsing history, Instagram account details, messages, or usage analytics.
What LockIn stores on your device
LockIn saves your preferences using Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). This includes:
- Which parts of Instagram you chose to hide.
- Whether "DMs only" mode is on.
- If you use the lock feature, the time your lock ends.
This data stays in your browser on your own device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else. Removing the extension, or clearing the extension's data in Chrome, deletes it.
How the extension works on Instagram
LockIn runs only on https://www.instagram.com/. On that site it changes how the page is displayed, for example by hiding certain sections, so that the content you chose to hide is not shown. It does not read, copy, record or transmit your posts, messages, account information or anything else on the page.
Permissions
LockIn requests only the storage permission, which is used solely to save your settings locally as described above. It also runs on instagram.com so that it can hide the sections you choose.
Third-party services
LockIn does not use analytics, advertising, error-reporting, payment or any other third-party services, and it does not share data with third parties. LockIn is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instagram or Meta.
Data sale and use
We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, and we do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose of hiding parts of Instagram. We do not use data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Data retention
Because we do not collect any data, we hold none. Your locally stored settings remain on your device until you change them, clear them, or uninstall the extension.
Children's privacy
LockIn does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If LockIn's data practices change, for example if a future version adds a feature that collects data, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change.
